DPD has been responsible for the shipping of an item, however, the parcel has not been collected from the drop-off shop.
What happens now? And is there anything you need to do?

There are actually two ways to consider this situation.
- If the package is at a drop-off shop (or locker) close to the recipient and it has not been collected, how long will it stay there?
- If the package has been left at the drop-off shop by the sender, and DPD has failed to collect it, what happens next?
Let’s take a look at each in turn.
DPD Parcel Not Collected by the Recipient
Let’s assume the DPD parcel is now inside a drop-off shop and is awaiting collection by the recipient.
Exactly how long will it stay there?
According to DPD, you have up to 7 calendar days to pick up your package from a pickup shop (which is the same as a drop-off shop). Calendar days are every day of the week, including Sunday.
Furthermore, you’ll be notified by email & SMS when your parcel is ready to collect, and you can collect at a time to suit you.
If you do not pick up your parcel within the 7-day time frame, arrangements will be made by DPD for it to be returned to the sender.
You can halt this process by contacting DPD, however, and making alternative delivery arrangements, (delivery to a neighbor for example).

DPD Parcel Not Collected by DPD
If you are the sender and you have looked at your package tracking to see that DPD has not collected the parcel from the drop-off shop, you might be asking why.
There are actually a number of reasons.
The most common is that the DPD driver collected packages from the drop-off location earlier in the day and your package missed that collection time.
This means that the parcel will simply be picked up the following business day.
Unfortunately, if you dropped the item off on a Saturday and you missed collection, it will not begin moving until Monday.
This also means that your tracking will not update until this has happened. Which, understandably can cause frustration.
There is also the irritating scenario where your package may have not been collected by DPD through error, (mislaid inside the drop-off location for example).
Your package has missed the collection and could now end up delayed.
I recommend that if more than 48hrs pass with no new update, you contact DPD or the drop-off shop to make inquiries.

Essentially, if the package is ready for collection by the recipient, they have up to 7 days in which to pick it up.
If the package is at a drop-off shop waiting for collection by DPD, this should take place within 24hrs of the item being dropped off there.
Anything more than two days and you should contact DPD.
The sooner it is moving again, the sooner delivery can take place.
