You’re expecting a delivery from FedEx and you have received a “Scheduled for Delivery Next Business Day” tracking update.
What does this mean exactly? When can you expect your package to arrive and is there anything you need to do?
Let’s take a look…
FedEx “Scheduled for Delivery Next Business Day” Meaning
The “Scheduled for Delivery Next Business Day” tracking update from FedEx means that the package will be delivered the next business day that the shipment service level operates.
When Will My Package Arrive After a “Scheduled for Delivery Next Business Day” Update?
This all depends on the service level of the shipment and the operating hours of the region you live in.
In true FedEx fashion, this can make understanding the tracking update confusing.
For example, Ground Home Delivery operates 7 days a week.
This means that if you receive this update there is a very good chance your package will be delivered the following day, even if that is a Sunday.
On the other hand, a standard FedEx shipment with only a 5-day-a-week operating schedule, receiving the “Scheduled for Delivery Next Business Day” update on a Saturday, would mean you should expect the delivery on Monday, (i.e the next business day).
To add further confusion, even FedEx services that state 7 days a week operation may not service all areas to the same degree.
Rural and remote locations may not receive Sunday deliveries, meaning that Monday would be the next business day.

Tracking states “On Vehicle for Delivery – Scheduled for Delivery Next Business Day”?
This is another confusing update that can leave FedEx customers jumping onto forums with angry comments.
In some ways, the tracking is a contradiction. “On Vehicle for Delivery” means that the package is on the truck ready for final delivery.
“Scheduled for Delivery Next Business Day” as we have explained, means that the package will be delivered the next operating day of the service level.
So what happens when you put them together?
There is still a very good chance due to the fact the package is out for delivery, that it will arrive that same business day, (Saturday, Sunday, or otherwise).
However, it can be very frustrating waiting at the delivery address all day expecting it to arrive, only to find that it doesn’t.
In other words, clarity on this one is in short supply.

Is there anything I can do after a “Scheduled for Delivery Next Business Day”?
One suggestion is to keep an eye on your tracking details to see if it is updated with an actual specific delivery date.
This will take away a lot of the uncertainty and allow you to make arrangements accordingly.
You can also phone FedEx customer services, however, they may not be able to pinpoint exactly where your package is (on the truck or in a facility) and whether delivery will be made that day or the following business day.
You may have better luck with FedEx Delivery Manager.
You will need to already be signed up to this to use it, (it is free to join), and this will give you more details as well as greater management of the delivery.
For example, if you are confused you could place a hold on the item and pick it up from a FedEx store or pickup point such as Walgreens.
[Note: You can only do this as long as the package is not on the truck for delivery.]
Taking care of issues yourself can sometimes be the best way to deal with tracking updates such as this one, which can lead to customers being confused.

Final Words
On the face of it “Scheduled for Delivery Next Business Day” should be a simple FedEx tracking update to understand.
It literally means the package will be delivered the next business operating day of the service.
However, with the various FedEx service levels, different geographic locations not always fully catered for, as well as the potential for unreliable tracking, you can be left wanting to rip your hair out.
Our recommendation is to try to be patient, signup to FedEx Delivery Manager for greater control and be prepared for delivery anytime over the following 48hrs.
